A survey found 74% of prospective homebuyers said financial obstacles blocked a purchase, with high home prices and elevated mortgage rates cited most often.
62% of Americans who do not own a home said homeownership felt out of reach, and just 15% expected to buy within 12 mo.
59% said they did not completely understand homebuying steps; while 84% knew scores affect eligibility, 22% misunderstood how credit influences mortgage pricing.
Preparation also lagged: 17% had not tried improving credit, and 26% had not encouraged a co-applicant to strengthen their profile before buying.
Even so, homeownership still signaled independence, financial stability, and a major life milestone for many Americans, highlighting why better guidance can matter.
